GYROS

A Brief History

Gyros were first introduced to the United States via Chicago sometime between 1965 and 1968 from Greece.  With a sizeable Greek population in Chicago it quickly became a local staple food for street vendors and quick serve restaurants throughout the city.

The most popular presentation is to start with seasoned gyros meat on a warm pita topped with Tzatiki sauce, tomatoes and onions.  We also offer the same gyros meat on a salad for those looking for a slightly healthier alternative.

Gyros have since spread to all parts of the country with several chain restaurants embracing the concept, but the true Gyro is still identified as part of Chicago's working class cuisine.  At Chicago Mike's we bring a truly authentic version of this working man's lunch to Denver for your enjoyment.
